Aencient sturgeons belonging to the family Acipenseridae and their evolution dates back to the Triassic some 200+ million years ago. Photographed in the Danube Delta Eco Museum Center of Tulcea in Danube Delta, Romania.

These giants of the Danube Delta face numerous threats to their survival. After surviving on Earth for millions of years, sturgeon are now overfished and loose their natural habitat and breeding grounds. According to IUCN, sturgeon are "more critically endangered than any other group of species".
